IDENTIFY THE FOLLOWING:

1.   Decide on a musical work, piece or song.

2.   Name the artist, group or person responsible for composing the musical work:

3.   Give historical background and influence of style. Discuss any influences and how they affect the outcome of the piece. Cite characteristics of the influencing style present in the piece. Use past or present influences that include artist(s), group(s) or composers that directly affect your chosen piece.

4.   Identify the following:

-Vocal technique: crooner, shouter, even timbered, smooth, deep, full, bright, dark, wide ranged, expressive, controlled, bel canto, use of Vibrato, etc.

-Lyrical content: (meaning of the lyrics or how does the music support or not support the message of what is being sung?)

-Instrumentation: (strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, electronic instruments, guitar, drum kit, etc.)

-Melody: (tune, motive, through composed, conjunct, disjunct)

-Harmony (major or minor, consonant, dissonant)

-Rhythm: (tempo, meter, tempo, syncopation, overall characteristics of the rhythm)

-Form: (strophic, binary, ternary, rondo, variation or something entirely in its own form), diagram with letters.

-Texture:

(monophonic, polyphonic, homophonic)

-Expression (use of dynamics, articulation, rubato, overall emotional impact of the piece or how well it establishes or maintains a groove).

-Include an overall reaction to the work including criticism of its performance as well as how much you like or dislike the work.
