Write About Your Native City

I used to live in the east end of Tokyo. Tokyo doesn't have good scenery. Although the downtown is filled with busy people, too many buildings and cars, it has a really beautiful night landscape in front of Tokyo Bay. I moved back to San Francisco last week and have been living on the upper side of a hill. There I can see the most incredible landscape every morning and night. I can't describe the inspirational view of dawn, the rising sun and the brilliant night. Nature and humans are combined so much more here in San Francisco than in Tokyo. Tokyo is more artificial than San Francisco.--Keiko

My hometown city, Jinjoo, is part of South Korea. When I was a kid, we had a lot of places to play, for example, mountains, rivers and wild fields. Even if we played outside, we never came back home until it was dark. Some parents used to look for their child. Our city had a population of 100,000 to 150,000, not too big and not too small. I left around 30 years ago. My relatives and some of my friends still live over there. We have a long history in my city. We still have a good history museum, good sightseeing places including a castle. I think now a lot of things have changed. There are too many apartments and the population is getting bigger all the time. I get homesick. That place was our home for 3 generations. Do you know who is happy? In my opinion, just stay in your hometown, with relatives and friends. That's enough. Life is short! Don't argue! Don't fight! Make peace with your mind and body.--Yoon Saing

My native city is Kyaikto. It's located in Myanmar. I lived in Kyaikto. It's the bottom part of Myanmar. The capital city is Rangoon. Most of the well-known museums are located in Rangoon. My country's weather is very hot and humid. The only cold season is December. When it rains, it rains a lot. There is a lot of thunder and lightning. Most of the concrete buildings are located in Rangoon, Mandalay, Prome, and other big cities. In small cities most of the houses are built of wood and are very small. Most people shop at markets and bazaars. Burmese people's daily lives involve farming. 80% of Burmese people are farmers. My country and San Francisco are very different. Most of the streets are sand and rocks. Only big cities have concrete. In San Francisco most people close the door and go to work daily. In Burma, most of the men go to work and the women stay home. The doors are always open. They only close the doors at night time. They don't have too many electric things. Big cities have more electric things than small cities. Burma is a very beautiful country and is surrounded by a lot of Buddhas, trees, mountain and rivers. I really love my country. My childhood life in Burma was a dream.--Alice

My native city is Seoul, Korea. I know that my hometown is very well-known by everybody now. I would like to write about my advice if you visit Korea. There is a lot of traffic in Seoul. It means very often cars fill the street and vehicles can not move forward. If you want to meet someone somewhere you should leave your home or hotel an hour earlier.--Myoung-Sook

My native city is a very educated and respectful town. There was a population of 125,000 when I lived there. When I lived there, my mother taught me to respect other people and bow to older people and they gave me some money. So when I was a little girl, I used to love bowing to older people because they gave me money. This is the greatest culture in my country and hometown.--Nam

I want to talk about a little museum in my native city, Canton, China. In our museum I remember there are a lot of old things, old tradition styles, and Chinese old history to let all Chinese know and remember. But over here, the museums are more interesting because inside the museums there is a lot of different information about different cultures. That's why when my kid's school goes to the museum, I always voluteer to go with them.--Julie

In Russia I lived in a small town near Moscow. Its name is Noginsk. Before the revolution in 1917, its name was Bogorodsk. It means "This place was created by God." Now our Mayor wants to return this name to our town. I hope it will happen soon. Bogorodsk is the real name for my town because there are many big and beautiful trees. Bogorodsk sits on a big river, Klyazma. The town has a museum of history, theaters, a school of music, and a school of arts. There are many great people who lived there. I really miss my small and beautiful town.--Elena

My native city is Rangoon. It is the capital city of Burma. Rangoon is not a very developed city. It doesn't have many highways and modern buildings. It has a museum but it's not very big. It is a new building and inside it has only native antiques. The weather is terrible, mostly hot and rainy. The country's products are famous Burma jade and teak. These two things are very famous in the world. The people live by farming and they don't have many big shopping malls. If you compare it with San Francisco it is dramatically different. If you want to visit, it is a great idea. You can see a Golden Pagoda. This pagoda is also famous in the world. Don't miss it. Come to visit Rangoon and you will feel surprised.

My native city is located in Mexico. It's name is Catemaco. There's a big lagoon by the city where people go to swim and fish. The weather is warm all year long. The mountains and trees are green. If you want to go there you don't have to worry about much money. Things are not expensive.--Jorge

I lived in an Estonian town called Narva. It's a small industrial town not far from the sea. I like it because I like water very much. There are many beautiful places in my town: an old castle, nice parks, the river beach. Narva has a few museums and an art gallery. San Francisco is a big city. It's a difference between it and my native town. The similarities are only water around the city. I like to live close to the ocean very much.--Inna

Now I have two native cities: Odessa, located on the Black Sea and San Francisco, on the Pacific Ocean. Old Odessa is a very beautiful city, but the new districts have standard houses, like the Sunset in San Francisco. Odessa and San Francisco have many theaters, museums, and universities. But Odessa and San Francisco have many differences. One is that in Odessa I worked as a teacher in a university, and in San Francisco I am a student at John Admas Campus. I don't know what is the best. --Yuriy

My native city is Odessa. It is located on the Black Sea. Odessa is a beautiful city with many museums. In Odessa there is an excellent opera building. It was built in 1885. Then it was repaired many times. The Black Sea is warm in the summer and many people swim in the summer.--Nelli

I was born in a rural and small city called San Miguel but my family moved to the capital of my country, San Salvador, when I was 6 months old. This is a modern city where you can find a lot of similarities with San Francisco. For example, people work in big buildings, live in apartment buildings or houses, and shop in similar malls. But there are two big differences: the weather is warm all the time and you can enjoy the beaches and go to them because they are close to the city and it's easy to get there.--Wendick

My native city is Odessa in Ukraine. It's a very beautiful and nice town. It has many famous places. If you want to visit my country you have to see the beaches, Lungeron, Arcadia and Golden Beach. Odessa has an Opera Palace that is famous in Europe. Odessa is a very big port that is known in all places in all countries. Odessa has many museums, a big zoo and parks.--David

The name of my native city is Peshawar. Peshawar is a 2,000-year-old city. The old name of my native city was Pahkalawati. The Peshawar Valley was the central place of the Gandhara civilization. It's still very attractive for archeologists. Peshawar is at the junction between South Asia and Central Asia. Merchants from Central Asia came to Peshawar. In Peshawar, the Qissa-Khawani Bazaar (storytelling bazaar) is very famous. People and merchants came to the bazaar and they told stories to each other and drank green tea.
