Sewing & Alteration

Course Length: 16 weeks

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Study of techniques and methods that every fashion design student and seamstress need to make their creative ideas a reality. Students will develop their skills in clothing construction including: dressmaking, fitting, tailoring, and alterations.


COURSE PURPOSE: Practice and perfection of sewing and fitting skills. See a project from idea to physical completion. Make use of materials such both that utility and beauty is found.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Construct and complete projects that increase and improve sewing skills.

Use commercial patterns as a base to begin designing and personalizing work.

Discussion and practice of excellent garment making skills.

Discussion and practice of altering patterns and finished garments for the purpose of good fit.

Discussion and practice of hand sewing techniques.

Operate industrial and home sewing machines while following appropriate safety precautions.
