If you already have a copy of the textbook, you may purchase the MyLab Student Access kit separately, online, on the first day of the course on Canvas.

Note: Students need to obtain the textbook and MyLab within the first week of class. Students who wait 1 or 2 weeks to obtain the textbook and software license will have very difficult time completing this course successfully.

Required Materials

1. This class is for learning about PCs, so you need to access to a reliable Microsoft PC(Not an Apple mac) that meets minimum system requirements to run Canvas as well as MyLab.  MyLab is an online training and testing simulator website for learning 4 programs of Microsoft Office, you must purchase the above license to use the site.  It is a Microsoft Office 2019 simulation program.

2. Microsoft Office 2019 - all CCSF students have access to a free version of Office 365, 2019 Edition so there is no need to purchase it. Microsoft Office 2019 is also available for use on hundreds of computers on campus.

Computer
Access

You need dependable access to a computer with Internet connection that meets the minimum system requirements for both Canvas and Mylab. Canvas as well as MyLab can be used with either a PC or Mac. Mac students have found that some of the MyLab simulation assignments are a bit more challenging on a Mac and have opted instead to complete them on a PC, although this is not necessary to successfully complete the assignments. Mylab only works well with Firefox or Chrome. It has problem with Microsoft Internet Explore ( Microsoft Edge).

When completing the Grader assignments in MyLab, you will need access to Micorosft Office 2019. The older Mac version of Microsoft Office is not compatible.

If your computer breaks down, it is your responsibility to have a backup plan - don't wait till the last minute to turn in your homework assignments.  Computers are available with Internet access in the Rosenberg Library on the Ocean campus, in Batmale Hall, and in the Science Building.  (You will still need to buy the MyLAB license to have an account for doing this homework assignment.) Homework assignment deadlines will not be extended due to individual computer or Internet connection problems.

Drop Policy Instructor will drop students who do not attend class or do the homework assignments for two weeks.  Before dropping I will email the student with a reminder to log in, but if the student doesn't reply or log in they will be dropped. READ YOUR SCHOOL EMAILS!

Students must take quizzes, turn in assignments and otherwise do all required coursework.  Not completing any homework tasks for two weeks is grounds for being dropped, and the drop date will be the last time a homework/quiz assignment was completed.  You also may drop the class yourself, until the last day drop is available.  (Check the final drop date for the semester listed in the CCSF calendars.) NOTE: If you must be absent but do not want to be dropped, email the instructor with your reason for late homework.

Weekly Assignments

Keep track of the weekly assignments on the ScheduleEach Assignment will have a specific deadline you must meet. If you have to turn in a document, you will receive a grade within one week after the due date.

Some homework assignments will be submitted via an upload written assignment, or by doing Trainings/Exams in MyLab online site, or by doing the Chapter quizzes based on the Technology in Action textbook.

Chapter quizzes and Final Exam The Chapter quizzes and Final exam are timed.  You must take the test during the stated dates.  Check the schedule for dates that tests are available, and then visit the Quizzes area of Canvas to take the test.  The test results will be available to you immediately.  The Final exam may not be taken late. There is no midterm exam for an 8 week course.

Cheating

If a student is found to be cheating on any test or homework, he or she shall receive a score of –100 (negative ten points) for that work.  The evidence of cheating (diskettes, original quizzes or other papers) will not be returned to the student, but kept by the instructor.  Repeated or severe cheating may lead to a larger penalty, including an immediate final grade of F.

For quizzes, cheating includes- but is not limited to- talking with another student on any topic during a quiz, having notes or open books accessible, looking at another student’s quiz paper or allowing another student to see your quiz paper.

For homework, cheating includes- doing homework for another student. It is acceptable to help other students by answering questions about how to do the homework, but each student must do their own homework.

If a situation arises where you are uncertain about the ethics involved, please talk to me. The policy on cheating applies equally to students who give inappropriate assistance as well as to those who receive it.
Accessibility Students who need academic accommodations should request them from the Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) located in the Rosenberg Library, Room 323 on the Ocean Campus. Telephone: 415-452-5481 (V) 415-452-5451 (TDD). DSPS is the campus office responsible for verifying disability-related need for academic accommodations, assessing that need, and for planning accommodations in cooperation with students and instructors as needed and consistent with course requirements.
