ESL 69

Accent Improvement

Two Ongoing Assignments

You will have two more lab cards and two more Audacity recordings due before the end of the summer sessions

Due Dates for both:

Wednesday, July 6

Wednesday, July 20 (July 18 would be better)

You must have 5 lab hours stamped for each due date.  (plus the 5 hours due on June 22)

I.  Audacity Recordings

It is your responsibility to make sure that your recordings are audible.  If they are not audible, I will send them back to you and/or you might not get full credit.  This will also make it difficult to do the next assignment.

Part of this assignment is for you to listen to your own voice and hopefully re-record it to improve.

Label each assignment with your name, the number of the assignment, and with the extension.mp3

If your name is Mary Smith, your second audacity recording should come to me as

marysmith2.mp3  (If you have a really long name, you can shorten your name.)

 Email your recording to nhusari@gmail.com

I will return your recordings to you as soon as possible.  You need to get your recording with my comments back BEFORE you can begin to work on the next assignment.

Assignment #2  Due July 6  (or before)

Listen to my comments on your recording, and look at the 2 papers.

If you had an appointment with me instead of the recording, I gave you the 2 papers and talked to you in person.

Part I.  Copy 5 problem words or phrases.  Write these words or phrases in new originals sentences.  Practice many times.

Record these sentences on your new Audacity recording.

Part II.   Write a paragraph on the following topic.

The Challenges of Learning a New Language and Culture.

Practice many times.

Record yourself reading this in a natural way.

Time your recording while you are practicing.  The entire recording should be 5 minutes maximum.  I am looking for quality, not quantity.

GRADING:

Notice that the assignment  has 4 parts:  2 written and 2 recorded.

Everyone starts with the full 25 points, but you will lose points if something is missing or of low quality.

You will lose 5 points per part if something is missing.

You will lose 3 points if I have to send your recording back to you because it is inaudible.

You will lose points if it is obvious to me that you did not spend enough time on the assignment.
