1984 IN 2006 -- ( February 1, 2006 - Anderson Valley Advertiser)

It is very disturbing to hear that many people feel there's nothing wrong with government surveillance. They believe that you have nothing to fear "unless you are up to no good". I urge these people to read Orwell's 1984, a nightmare about a government who is perpetually at war, who decides for itself what is right or wrong, and who controls every action of it's citizens through the use of constant surveillance.

We are already far down that road to this Orwellian nightmare. My question is: who decides what is right or wrong? As Robert Heinlein also put it; "You can have Freedom or you can have Peace. Don't expect to have both at the same time".
