Adventures in Nature Reading Group
5 Mondays, 1-2 PM in Library 215. Starts October 19.
Awe! Terror! Mishaps! The glories of the wilderness! The meaning of
existence! Quiet intimacy with birds and bees! Not to mention bears,
glaciers, waterfalls, and weasels.
The group is a lot of fun--we read short selections from writers like John Muir, Edward Abbey, Bill Bryson, Annie Dillard, Thoreau, and Mary Oliver. It's informal, and we usually take a nature walk and have a picnic for the last session. I choose readings based on the group's interest. Students in 93 with ESL backgrounds have enjoyed it as well as English majors taking literature courses.
