SUMMER MATH 80 PROBABILITY AND STATISTICS  ONLINE STUDENTS

There are two sections of Math 80 Online, Section 831 and Section 832, during the Summer 2017 semester.  These sections are entirely online except for the final exam at the end of the semester. You must take the final exam on the CCSF Phelan campus. The final exam time is scheduled for July 21 with the time and room to be announced. .

The orientation for each section will be online as well as all of the examinations that will occur throughout the semester. The only exception is the final exam.

A little while before or on the first day of class, Monday, June 12, 2017, I will contact all enrolled students by email informing everyone about how to login into the course and what everyone will need to do to begin learning statistics online. You need to login and begin the course on June 12.

If you would like to enroll in Math 80 Online and were not able to do so because the section is full, you may send an email me on June 11 or June 12 and I will almost surely send you an add code. I anticipate that everyone who wants to add will be able to add the class.

You should purchase the textbook for the Math 80 Online before the beginning of the semester. If you order the textbook online, you will need to do so well in advance of the first ady of class. If you get the book more than a week after the class starts, you will almost surely not be able to catch up. The text is Stats Data and Models, 4th Edition by De Veaux, Vellman, and Bock,ISBN-13: 978-0-321-98649-8. Do not buy any other edition. Try to make sure the text comes with an ActivStats DVD and with an access code for the DVD. If you buy the textbook used on the internet, it will likely not come with a DVD with the code. The DVD is very useful, but it is not absolutely necessary for the course. In addition, you must have a TI-84 graphing calculator. A TI-83 is adequate but not as good as the TI-84; however, if you have a TI-83 calculator, there is no need to buy a TI-84. You will need one of these calculators in order to be successful in the course.

Please note the prerequisite for Math 80 is Math 60 Intermediate Algebra or Math 45 Preparation for Statistics with a grade of C or higher or a higher level college mathematics course with a grade of C or higher.  You must have had the course here at City College or you will need to prove that you meet the prerequisite, Intermediate Algebra, via a college transcript and course description, or you need to take the CCSF Mathematics Placement Test and place out of Intermediate Algebra.  A sufficient SAT score also will meet the prerequisite. If you have taken the prerequisite at another college, you must prove that you meet the prerequisite before you may add Math 80.  If you plan to enroll in Math 80, you will need to prove that you have the prerequisite before the first day of class. Someone in the Matriculation Office is able to verify that a college mathematics course on your transcripts meets the prerequisite for Math 80.

Consult the CCSF Summer 2017 Schedule of Classes or the Math 80 Syllabus for additional information.
