Research and presentation:

If you are aiming for a B or higher, you will need to do research on a particular topic related to the ecology of the city of San Francisco. For a list of possible topics click here. You will need to present this topic to the class in a 3-5 minute presentations. Make this presentation informative and interesting. Enhance both the research paper and your presentation with at least two properly cited visuals. Note that your paper may contain more information than you have time to present. I may post your paper on the course website for the use of students in this course. An 'A' paper from a previous class is posted as a model.

 

The electronic version of your homework will be due on Thursday, April 10, at 5 p.m. Email your work to cpogge@ccsf.edu. You can turn in your paper on Saturday morning, but will lose 10 points (one grade). Papers submitted after Saturday 8:30 am will not be accepted. Bring a copy of your report to the field trip to assist you in your presentation to the class. Please contact me at any time if you need help or would like feedback on your research.

 

 

 

Minimum requirements:

  • Use your own words, do not plagiarize. If you are unsure what plagiarism means, please check out the resource on plagiarism.
  • Properly reference your sources (at least three different sources are required). You can use the MLA format or follow these directions. I need to be able to find your source.
  • This course is worth one unit – which corresponds to a 3-hour lab that meets 16 times during a semester with midterm and final. Correspondingly, your paper should be well researched and at least 3-4 pages long .
  • Include at least two properly cited visuals to enhance the paper/presentation.
  • Our class time is valuable: only report on things that you yourself find interesting.
  • Practice your presentation to make sure that you are within the 5 minute time limit.
