Revision Plan

The revision plan is a little like a cover letter, but you turn it in before you do a draft of your revision instead of at the end. It gives you a chance to think through how you will go about improving your paper and to identify any difficulties and potential strategies in advance.

It should include the following elements:

  • Submit it with your graded midterm.
  • Describe what the major areas for improvement were, based on the instructor comments.
  • List any questions you have about the instructor comments. Were any unclear to you?
  • Describe what steps you will take to fix these problems (i.e. rereading the text, brainstorming, freewriting, visiting the Writing Lab, discussing the ideas with friends, visiting the instructor's office hours, etc).
  • Do you need more instructor feedback in order to have enough to work on for this revision?
  • What are the areas that need the most new writing or most intensive rewriting?
  • How will you go about correcting the grammar errors on the parts of the essay that are new or have significant changes?
