Web page for CCSF Astronomy 16, Section 1

If you are seeing a lot of annoying markings on this web page (empty boxes, or black diamonds containing question marks), please go to the “view” menu of your browser, select “character/text encoding,” and then chose “Western (Windows)” and this page miraculously will look nice and neat.  If you do not have “Western (Windows)” as an option, any other “Western” setting will be much better than the default “Unicode” (although I recommend switching back to “Unicode” after leaving this page-- since leaving it in a “Western” setting supposedly weakens the security of your browser).

The final exam was worth 30 points, although (as with the midterm) I added two points to everyone’s raw score, so 32 points was hypothetically possible.  Some people did not give a code name, so not everyone is listed here.  The class average was 23.2/30, which a high C+.  Unlike the midterm, which had a B average, this class’s final exams were more typical of what I’ve seen in past semesters.  Each part of the exam had students who did exceptionally well, students who did average-okay, and students who did poorly.  If anything stood out, it was that the graphing section had a lower average than what I typically see (while the star wheel and multiple-choice sections had slightly higher averages than what I typically see).

The final letter grades had a few close calls.  Fortunately, all of these resolved on the higher side once every last point was included (including extra credit write-ups, the two-point bonus for perfect attendance, and my being a little generous in granting partial credit for work that was submitted very late).

You were a great class!  Have a wonderful summer everyone!
