I noticed something very important. The tail is barred, which is a very good field mark for Ladder-back. I am going to have to change my decision. I think that is the only really good field mark this bird has. In my opinion, female Nuttall's/Ladder-backs with their backs turned can only be IDed with the aid of the tail. And we were looking at all the wrong things this whole time....
