SYLLABUS

Course Length: 15 weeks

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Methods and techniques of clothing construction to meet students’ needs, including basic sewing and flat pattern drafting, and design through composing test draping designs on mannequins. Draping teaches how a design should be started or corrected.

COURSE PURPOSE: To acquire a sense of proportion and a feel for texture and drapability of fabric. To correctly visualize the proportions of the finished garment.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • Operate industrial and home sewing machines while following appropriate safety precautions
  • Construct projects that increase and improve sewing skills
  • Demonstrate the use of muslin samples to design and construct garments
  • Identify and review various fashion fabrics, including linings and interfacings
  • Identify and review great fashion through study of actual garments as well as various media
  • Discussion and practice of excellent garment making skills
  • Discussion and practice of hand sewing techniques
  • Operate industrial and home sewing machines while following appropriate safety precautions
