SYLLABUS
INTERMEDIATE SWING DANCE
PE 570B
OBJECTIVES:
1. Develop an understanding of the history of swing dance.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the correct frame during intermediate swing moves.
3. Demonstrate a detailed understanding of connection as it relates to intermediate swing moves.
4. Demonstrate a detailed ablity to use momentum when executing swing dance moves.
5. Understand and identify the differences in music styles.
6. Understand and demonstrate which swing dance moves are appropriate with which music styles.
7. Demonstrate an understanding of correct body alignment for swing dance.
8. Demonstrate an ability to perform intermediate swing dance moves.
9. Demonstrate an ability to improvise with the music and your partner.
COURSE ASSIGNMENTS: Final exam and written papers.
DRESS CODE: Students are expected to wear street clothes that allow movement. Ballroom dance or swing dance shoes are recommended for swing dancing. Sneakers or tennis shoes are not recommended for dancing.
GRADING POLICY
MIDTERM AND FINAL EXAM 20%
The midterm will be during Mid-Term Week. The final exam will be on the last day of class. Students will be tested on the dances and moves learned from the beginning of the semester through the exam.
