GRADING POLICY

1. Credit/No Credit is available for all classes.  See instructor for the appropriate form.  Credit/No credit applications must be submitted prior to the deadline. Students must receive a grade of C or better to receive credit.

2. ATTENDANCE  

    1 absence is allowed without any penalty.  Each additional absence will result in the final grade being lowered 1 grade.  A total of 5 absences will result in a failing grade.

    Absences must be made up in the midterm period in which they occur.

    ALL students who require special accommodations please notify the instructor in ADVANCE!

    After three absences you cannot get an "A" regardless of make-ups.

    Make-ups will consist of verified attendance in another dance class (African-Haitian, jazz, modern, ballet, tap, ballroom, folk, etc.) either at City College or in a private studio (bring receipt).  The makeup form is available at the front desk in the North Gym lobby or from the instructor.    Each attendance at a Swing or Ballroom Party will count as a make up.  Each field trip attended will also count as a make up.

3. Paper  -   10%

    There will be two papers for all classes.  The first paper answers the question:  What are my goals for this class?  This paper is due during the second week of the semester.  The second paper answers the question:  Were my goals met?  What else did I learn in this class?  What would I change about this class?  The paper is due on or before the last day of class. 

    CRITERIA FOR PAPER:

  • Typed or neatly handwritten
  • Addresses the assigned subject
  • Titled

    • Final grades are based on the following scale:

  • 90-100 A
  • 80-90 B
  • 70-80 C
  • 60-70 D

    • How to get an A:

    1.  Only have one official absence at the end of the semester.

    2.  Complete the papers.

    3.  Get an A or B+ on the midterm and final exam.

    How to get a B:

    Either miss 2 classes or don't write the paper or get lower than a B+ on the midterm and final exam.

    How to get credit:

    Have 3 absences and complete the paper and final exam.

    Have no absences and don't take final or do paper.

    If you do the paper and don't take the final or vise versa, you can have only 1 absence
