Let's Hit The Beach!

 Low Tide on Rehoboth Beach

The City of Rehoboth Beach is located on the Atlantic Coast of Delaware .  Three miles south of the mouth of the Delaware Bay, and 17 miles north of the Maryland state line.  Rehoboth Beach is open to the Atlantic Ocean but usually receives low to moderate surf.  In the absence of wind or storms, usual summer surf heights range from less than one foot to around three feet.  Winter offers slightly larger surf conditions  with six to eight foot surfs during Nor’easter storms.

Wooden groins (jetty) that serve to reduce beach erosion divide the two miles of beach.  Although conditions due tend to change with wave activity, there is usually a steep grade from the water line, creating a shore  break condition as the predominate wave formation pattern.

Water temperature ranges from the mid to upper 50’s in late May to a high of around 70 degrees Fahrenheit in late August. 1997 proved to have to warmest water temperature in several years, with reports of up to 75 degrees.

The Beach is open access to the public with no tags or fees; vehicles are not permitted on the beach.  A one-mile Boardwalk is located adjacent to the business district.
