Explanation of PHYS 67 Rubric used to score research presentations.
Each of the following items is scored from 1-10
Research: How much quality scientific information was presented? Did the presentation rely on primary literature studies or summary sources like Wikipedia or WEB MD instead of peer-reviewed materials? In presenting the research use of primary sources are more valuable in terms of scoring. In addition we look to see if the presentation relied on one study or did they summarize multiple sources and back up their presentation with multiple reference sources.
Neural Mechanisms Explained: Did the presentation convey our current understanding of the mechanisms involved. Even in areas where much might not be known about the subject did the presentation ground itself in the Biology, and Neuroanatomy, and clearly present what is known. Did the presentation ground itself in the information presented so far in class.
Command of Information: Does the speaker know what they are talking about. Are they proficient in their use of language and communication of concepts and ideas.
Organization and use of Time: Was the presentation well organized and logical in its presentation. Did it start and end clearly and have a clear point to it. How well was that point presented within the constraints of a short (10min) presentation.
Questions: How knowledgeable and clear were the presenters responses to questions at the end or during their presentation.
