Homework is generally due the day after it's assigned. Late homework is penalized 25% for each day late. No late work is accepted after 3 days, since it will only be worth 0% anyway. July 25-26: Resume and Cover LetterPick one of the job descriptions you found on the web site. What are the job functions? Qualifications? How do your skills match those? Start tailoring your resume to this job description so the skills you highlight are the ones that appear on the description. Write a cover letter to go with this job description and resume. We'll go over cover letters on Tuesday (Monday if there's time). Bring everything with you (job descriptions, resume and cover letter) on Wednesday! July 22: The ResumeYour resume highlights your objectives, skills and achievements. Start work on your rough draft and bring it with you on Tuesday! Also, visit a few of the job sites we discussed in class, and bring in descriptions for two jobs you find interesting on Monday. You can do a basic job search on most of these sites without actually having to register on the site, but you can create a user account, enter your interests, skills and resume to make it relatively easy for you to apply for positions. July 21: No HomeworkStudy for Quiz #2! July 20: One Last Time...Work on your statement one last time. It will be due tomorrow. July 19: More Personal StatementWork on refining your statement. Making sure it's focused, the grammar, spelling and punctuation are correct... Also...write down how much you spend in a typical week for things such as food, clothing, etc. Use this template as a guide for classifying your expenses. July 18: Personal StatementRough draft only. July 15: Applying for CollegePrint the Common Application and bring it with you to class tomorrow. We'll go over it in class, and it will be due on Monday. Curious about the SAT? Download the SAT Practice Test and see how you fare. I wont be collecting it, as actual test prep is beyond the scope of this class, but it will be helpful for you to get an idea of how the test is administered. July 14: Exploring CollegesAfter you fill in the College Characteristics checklist and narrow down your choices to about 5 desirable characteristics, visit the web site of two of the schools you're considering, and Campus Tours, a virtual college tour site. Tell me...how does each school match up with the characteristics that are important to you? How do they compare to each-other? Turn this in tomorrow with your Characteristics Checklist. July 13: College CharacteristicsWhich characteristics are most important to you in a college? Find out with the Characteristics Checklist (pdf format). Print this list, fill it out and bring it to class Friday. If you're curious, look at the website of a college you're interested in and see if it meets your criteria. July 12: Self-AssessmentComplete both self-assessments below, and print your results. Bring your completed lists to class with you tomorrow.
July 11: Library FormsFill out the Library Form and have your parents sign it. Submit completed forms to me in class tomorrow. CCSF must have your signed form in order for you to be granted library and internet priveleges. Information in this section © 2005 Tracey Kobayashi, unless otherwise noted. |
