November 30-December 4

Testing Week: Wednesday, our room will be open for any Eddy students from 8-12. Please come to class and show students your work, or practice English by answering questions for your ESL Eddy Street classmates.

Suvey Project: Review our notes from class.

  1. Help finish the student survey project. Find the survey spreadsheet in the public folder on your desktop.
  2. Make one pie chart, or make more than one. Make a beautiful, interesting, easy-to-read pie chart with large letters for the bulletin board.
  3. Put up our work on the third floor! You have done great work!

Voicethread: Family Story and Class Story

  1. Finish your family story from last week. Please listen and look at your classmates' stories. Make a comment for one or two classmates.
  2. Class story. Add your comment. Introduce yourself to the class in Chinatown this week! We will email our voicethread this week.

Spreadsheet Lessons: Civic Center/Alemany Student Survey

  1. We are going to make a school survey about our students.

New Speaking Lesson with Voicethread

  1. Bring a photo of your family or a friend. You can bring a digital picture or regular picture and we can scan it.
  2. Write a story about your family or friend in Word. Write 6-10 sentences.
  3. Save and print your story so I can check your grammar.
  4. Upload your photo to your Voicethread account.
  5. Record your story. Check your pronunciation and grammar. Are you loud enough?
  6. Make your story public.
  7. Copy and send me your link!

  2. Work with two or three classmates. Write some fun and interesting questions to ask other students. You can ask students in this class, and students in your other classes.

Wednesday is CASAS testing day. We will not have testing in this class. Be sure you take the test with a different teacher at 8:15 or 1:15. CASAS testing makes money for our college, and we need this money very much. Take the test!!!!!!

Your Resume Project: After you finish Juanita's resume, make your resume.

  1. Save her resume again on your flash drive. Choose Save As, and change the name to: My resume.
  2. Look at her resume. Highlight her name and address. Type yours. Save again.
  3. Change Juanita's information to your information, in the same way.
  4. Save often.
  5. Use Spell check.
  6. Print so I can check your work.
  7. Make changes, save again.
  8. Send your perfect resume to me as an attachment.

  3. You did great work with Audacity! We will make some more sound files this week.

Extra English: Slang Vocabulary Lessons

People like to use interesting words. People use slang a lot. When you know slang, it will help you understand Americans. You can use slang, too! Let's begin to learn every week.

  3. Write five slang sentences to practice and remember. Send me an email so I can check them for you!

    For example:

    • You are an ace student! You do everything very well.
    • I feel bonkers when I get so much email!
  4. You can choose a song for extra practice too. Songs usually have a lot of slang in them. Try one every week.

  1. Where are your classmates from? How long have we been here? Last week we wrote about our answers. Check this week.You can add for yourself, too.
  2. Watch your cartoon movies online.
  3. Story Project: Interview classmates. Write about one classmate.
    1. Search for pictures on Google about your classmate.
    2. Look for a flag, food and a beautiful famous place.
    3. Copy and paste in your classmate's story. Use shortcuts: Control + C, and Control + V
    4. Save your story and hand it in!

  5. Email Spelling: practice these words with a partner or by yourself.

        • Email is best for short conversations and short messages. People send job applications with attachments for example.
